Don't be put off by the use of the term 'non-human beings' because as I've experienced them myself, these 'non-human beings' are structures, patterns that have energy behind them, for 'civilizing' reality: they are governments, laws, corporations, (particularly now in 2007) and even 'prevailing paradigms', that have authority over one's life. That's just a beginning point however. It's a good idea to bear in mind that the word 'occult' has two levels of meaning, only one of which has been related to an emerging 'faculty of mind' in man. He named it Faculty X, (by Colin Wilson in his book The Occult, as well as other of his books). It's a faculty by which he will know for certain in a way that cannot be doubted, the meaning and purpose of life, and I emphasize the 'individual life'. His book, The Mind Parasites, seems to me to be a fairly decent account of what Emanuel Swedenborg wrote about as the 'evil spirits', who desire nothing more than to destroy man. But to experience this 'evil' is 'thought' experience, in conjunction with the 'angels' that are with man. He wrote that man experiences God as 'alien' to himself, and that's a fact that I've had many experiences with as a female, one that 'embodied' the 'opposite to everything', to the males in my life! He wrote that 'man is the recipient of life' and G. I. Gurdjieff wrote that 'man thinks he thinks, but something thinks through him' and 'man thinks he accomplishes but something is accomplished through him'.
This is a fact that science seems to acknowledge but not fully. "With the discovery of the cell, biology had found it's atom." agrees with e = mc2.
This is a very complex idea but it's based on recognizing in one's mental realm, there's a simple form of mirroring, one I think of as the moebius twist mirroring. It's a pattern but it's actually living as a 'point of perception', i.e. the moebius twist point is moving through life on a continuum where there are points of change, reversals, where forwards becomes backwards, up and down are reversed. The parable of the good seed speaks of that continuum, and the best book I've read about that parable is Maurice Nicolls' The Mark.
At this point, after much experience on that continuum, I think of it as the 'fourth perpendicular', as well as the 'seventh sense' although it unites all senses into one sense, actually being lived through by that 'non-human being', as though one is merely a point of perception. The pattern is one that C. G. Jung identified as a process of individuation, and Emanuel Swedenborg named 'regeneration', a term that is literally accurate because a kind of mental "re-playing' of thought packets occurs. The word 'resonation' or 'echo' fits but how I became aware of this extremely rapid 'replay', and of the name for it, was through many, many experiences of events in which it was necessary to grasp that this 'thing' that had taken authority over my life, was describing itself to me. I needed information and it was coming at me, carefully arranged, perfectly timed but this was a fact I had to discover. It didn't happen overnight!
The book Replay by Ken Grimswood and Nathan Salant Schwartz book, Narcissism, Character Disorders and Transformation gave me much information, about they myth of Narcissus and Echo (a life I actually lived) as did a documentary that John Lilly made for Thinking Allowed, From Here to Alternity in which he mentioned ECCO. I had named that 'entity', my own name, the Larger Domain but it seemed obvious he had also met it, and named it as Earth Coincidence Control Office.
.C. G. Jung identified a pattern inherent in man, which to my thinking discerns the workings of an 'other', the Oversoul of which Ralph Waldo Emerson spoke in his essay, The Oversoul. If wish I could briefly describe what happened to me when I read that essay shortly after 'awakening' in July of 1984. At certain points as I read, I was filled with understanding of specific events in my past that I'd not understood.
The knowledge of my past, in most intimate details was made quite distinct!
There's a point in almost every individual's life that a confrontation between such 'non-human beings' brings one face to face with an over-soul like authority. The source of this 'Oversoul' like authority reaches down into every day experiences is what is most difficult to discern because 'it' does not have 'human' values, or it seems that way, it seems compassionless, enigmatic and above all, determined to have it's way.
Isaac Asimov and I were born on January 2, in different years. One of his books, The End Of Eternity, and The Foundation series seem to me now to have been fictionalized versions of his encounter with that Oversoul like authority, of which he was unawares. Or he was very good at concealing that he detected the 'Presence of the Other' in his thought. Harlan Ellison in The End Of Eternity was a programmer who had freedom to travel into any time space, to make decisions that arranged the desired events to take place in the future.
With my personal background rooted in having read science fiction magazines and books from a very early age, my viewpoint of those stories now, is that they were all prophetic. Not only Isaac Asimov's but also Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End most certainly, and Space Odyssey 2001.
They were not fantasy, or the product of Isaac Asimov's imagination so much as the insertion into his life of that 'Oversoul' like authority, that exists outside of Time, (at our comfortable level) and has not tangibility except through inference, comparisons, and subtle changes that generate or affect thought, impulses and compulsions in one's real life.
(In his book, Bond of Power, Joseph Chilton Pearce seems to have had the same experiences I had relating to Childhoods' End, autism, William Blake, and 'folie aux duex'. That book describes the basic process of becoming attached to the 'insight realm', in my opinion, from experiences of my own. One extremely difficult to identify fact about 'coincidences of the meaningful kind', is that this book actually described what I was doing, or going to do, when I read it! This attribute is difficult to discover, many, many events had to happen before it became so distinct, and so important an attribute.)
